Mud Factor was created in 2011, when mud run events were exploding in popularity. Most focused on being as extreme and intimidating as possible, with few offering an event designed for the whole family.

We set out to create a “Seriously Fun!” 5K Mud & Obstacle Run that would be approachable and less intimidating for people new to running and obstacle course racing (OCR). At the same time, we wanted kids and parents to enjoy a full-size mud run experience—and take on the challenge together as a family.

In the spring of 2012, 1,100 participants attended the first Mud Factor SoCal event at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. By that fall, more than 6,000 participants joined us when Mud Factor returned to Glen Helen Raceway for SoCal II—the final event of our inaugural season.

In 2026, Mud Factor celebrates its 15th year, and our nationwide tour continues to return to many of our event locations annually. We also add a handful of new venues along the way, giving us the opportunity to meet new people and keep the tour exciting for our Crüe. We hope to see you at an event in your community soon!
